Thursday (23rd January) will be a pivotal day in the ongoing development of Swansea City and the Liberty Stadium, when the planning application to expand the stadium goes before the Swansea Council Development Management & Control Committee.
The plans detail a three-tier stadium on the North, South and East Stands. Work is due to begin on the East Stand once planning permission has been granted and it is envisaged the first phase of the stepped increased will be ready for the start of the 2014/15 season.
Here is a run-down of the revised plans:
Phase 1 will provide an extra 3,844 seats by building a third-tier on the East Stand which will bring the capacity to over 24,000.
Phase 2 provides an extra 4,324 seats when the South and South-East Stand are developed for the start of the 2015/16 season. This new South Stand will also contain hospitality boxes.
Phase 3 will finally see completion of the expansion when the North Stand receives it’s third tier and increases the seating area by a further 4,324.
Total capacity is expected to reach nearly 33,000.
However, contrary to local newspaper reports, we believe the proposed fourth-tier of the West Stand for the media WILL NOT be taking place.
