Former Arsenal and England striker Alan Smith, who is now a commentator for Sky Sports, has named three Swansea City players in his Premier League team of the season.

smithJonjo Shelvey, Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis have been named in Smith’s team of the season. All three have been in outstanding form and have duly been recognised for their excellent performances.

Starting with Jonjo Shelvey, who played twice for the England national side during the international break, has impressed Smith. Speaking on the Telegraph, the ex-Gunners ace said;

“You could easily make a case for Yaya Touré but Shelvey’s added maturity in a very impressive start wins a place. Also looks capable of hanging around in the England squad.”

The midfielder has pulled all the string in the heart of the Swansea side, and has provided Andre Ayew and Bafe Gomis with some sublime passes. Ayew and Gomis have netted all of Swansea’s seven Premier League goals thus far, and both find themselves in Smith’s XI.

“This (Ayew) free transfer has been sensational early on. Settled straight away into the rhythms of this league to nab three goals whilst working extremely hard.”

Ayew has slotted into Premier League life with apparent ease. After scoring one and setting one up in the 2-1 win over Manchester United last time out, the Ghanaian has become an instant hero amongst the Swans fans.

The man he set up against United, Gomis, has also began the season in devastating form. The Frenchman has found the net in every league game so far, and currently sits joint top of the Premier League goalscorers chart.

“I have had my doubts (about Gomis) in the past but you cannot knock his early effectiveness. Has held up the ball well and used his strength to bully opponents. Scored in every game.”

Garry Monk’s Swansea travel to Watford this weekend looking to preserve their unbeaten start to the new season.
