Former player turned pundit Paul Merson has predicted Swansea City to beat Manchester United in this Sunday’s Liberty Stadium showdown.
Merson, who is now a pundit for Sky Sports, has backed the Swans to make it three wins in their last three matches against Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United this weekend. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former England midfielder said;
“Last week United couldn’t break Newcastle down. They fell over the line against Villa, fell over the line against Spurs. You can’t keep on doing that.
“Swansea keep the ball. I make them favourites and for some reason they are not, they’re big outsiders for this football match with the bookies. I make this heads or tails, and I’ll go with the heads of Swansea.
“Rooney got back on the scoresheet against Club Brugge, but I’m not a fan of his in the centre-forward role. He needs to play No 10, and he needs to touch the ball 50 times in a game, not 25 times.
“I want him facing the goal, picking players out and making chances. I’m his biggest fan, but not when he’s up front.”
Swansea are arguably the closest they’ve ever been to Manchester United, in terms of on the pitch. Whereas the Red Devils have the financial capabilities and worldwide fan base, the Swans have a real togetherness and the ability to boot. It will be very interesting to see what pans out at the Liberty this weekend.
