Former Swansea City and Wales star Leighton James admits he can’t separate the Swans and Manchester United, although he does predict it will be an extremely tough game for Garry Monk’s side.
How can any Swans fan forget last season’s games against United. Swansea put in two excellent performances home and away and were well worthy of both of their memorable wins. Many Swans supporters and pundits alike believe last term’s victory at Old Trafford was Monk’s finest ever managerial moment.
Leighton James believes Sunday’s Liberty Stadium clash is impossible to predict. Speaking on his column for the South Wales Evening Post, the former winger said;
“There’s absolutely nothing to separate Swansea City and Manchester United when it comes to predicting who will win at the Liberty on Sunday – and I never thought I’d say that. Obviously, I’m not suggesting Swansea are on a par with United when it comes to quality.
“But with the game being in Landore, I honestly believe both sides have an equal chance of claiming three points. If I were a bookie, I don’t think I could pick a favourite. Just a glance at Swansea’s recent record against the Red Devils supports my view.
“As we all know, Garry Monk’s men did the double over United last season, while Swansea have won three of the last four meetings between the sides in all competitions.”
Although you can never underestimate Manchester United, Garry Monk will have his team fired up and he will want them to come out on the front foot. It’s got all the makings of being a real cracker in South Wales, and it truly is too hard to call.
