Swansea City take an early break from Premier League action tonight as they welcome League Two side York City to the Liberty Stadium for a second round Capital One Cup clash.
Garry Monk’s Swansea are unbeaten in the league so far, after securing draws with Chelsea and Sunderland and beating Newcastle United. As for tonight’s visitors York, they have taken four points from their first four League Two games – winning one, drawing one and losing two.
The Swans haven’t played the Minstermen since they battled it out in the old Division 3 in the 2003-4 season. That just proves how far Swansea have come in such a short space of time. The last two meetings between the clubs have ended in goalless draws.
Garry Monk has revealed he wants his side to do well in the cup competitions this season. Speaking ahead of the League Cup clash, the Swansea boss said;
“There will be chances for some to make a mark and give me a nudge, but that’s what a squad should do. The mentality a footballer should have is to be always pushing and giving their best.
“Whenever they are called upon, they should be ready. We need to keep the momentum going again even in a different competition. We want to do well in the cups this season.”
Despite Monk’s desires to progress tonight, the visitors will be coming to the Liberty Stadium fearless and with nothing to lose. No matter what league they operate in, they still have players who can hurt Swansea tonight. We take a look at York City’s three main danger men that the Swans must be wary of tonight.
