QPR Eyeing Up Move For Swansea Defender?

Spanish defender Jordi Amat has emerged as a potential target for Championship club Queens Park Rangers, according to breaking reports.

amat-qprThe central-defender, who signed for Swansea on a four-year deal from Espanyol in 2013, has accumulated 42 league and cup appearances for the Swans.

With defensive duo Ashley Williams and Federico Fernandez in such fine form, game time for the 23-year-old is going to be extremely hard to come by.

Despite Queens Park Rangers’ reported interest, Amat’s wage demands could be a potential stumbling block. After relegation from the top flight last term, Rangers are on a strict budget. Former Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker left Loftus Road for Southampton during the summer, and the R’s are eager to replace the centre-back.

Due to injury and the form of Swansea’s other central-defenders, Jordi Amat has endured a stop-start career at the Liberty Stadium. The Spaniard only featured 12 times for Garry Monk’s side last season, with his last appearance coming in Swansea’s 3-2 win against Newcastle United in late April.

Although QPR may not be able to meet Amat’s demands, the defender may still want to leave the Liberty to find regular first-team football elsewhere.

After two excellent performances at the start of the season, Swansea have taken four points from their first two games. Monk’s side face a trip to struggling Sunderland on Saturday, where they will no doubt be looking to take all three points.
