Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams lines up alongside the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Aleksandar Kolarov and Vincent Kompany in talkSPORT’s best XI of the week.
Williams put in yet another stalwart defensive display in the heart of the Swansea defence, and his performance in the Swans’ 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday hasn’t gone unnoticed.
The Swansea captain is named on the list which contains four Manchester City players and his teammate Jefferson Montero, also. TalkSPORT’s take on Williams’ fine display was an extremely complementary one;
“The Swansea captain has been integral to their impressive start to the season and against Newcastle he combined defensive assurance with a brilliant range of passing. Williams completed 102 out of 105 passes, with a remarkable 44 of them coming in Newcastle’s half.”
Over the years, Ashley Williams has become a priceless member to Swansea’s squad. The 30-year-old, who also captains the Welsh national side, made his 285th league appearance for the Swans on Saturday.
Garry Monk’s side could not really have asked for a better start to their Premier League campaign. After earning an impressive 2-2 draw at the home of the champions on Premier League opening day, Swansea looked in devastating form in Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over Steve McClaren’s Magpies – and the skipper has undoubtedly been at the forefront of both excellent results.
