£10m for Prolific Championship Striker? Or Chelsea Star?

  • Swans Interested in Blackburn Rovers Hitman Jordan Rhodes
  • Is he worth £10M?
  • Should we stick with Remy?

Swansea City have recently been heavily linked with Blackburn Rovers hitman Jordan Rhodes. However, reports suggest the Swans will have to stump up £10m for the Scotland international’s services – do you think Swansea should meet Rovers’ valuation for their star man?

Ever since Jordan Rhodes arrived at Ewood Park for an £8m fee from Huddersfield in August 2012, he’s been deadly in front of goal for the Lancashire club. In each of his last three seasons at Blackburn, Rhodes has netted 20+ Championship goals.

Last season, the 25-year-old struck up an excellent partnership with former Cardiff City striker and one-time Swans target Rudy Gestede – the pair scored a staggering 43 league goals between them. The Rovers strikers were certainly the Championship’s most devastating duo, but they are expected to be broken up during the summer.

Despite never featuring in the Premier League, Jordan Rhodes has made a huge name for himself in the Football League. Before earning his £8m switch to Ewood Park, the former Ipswich Town trainee netted 73 times in 108 league starts for the Terriers.

The £10m asking price may be a little steep for a player who has never played in the top flight, but the Oldham-born striker still has bags of potential and certainly deserves a crack in the Premier League. He’s been touted as one of the better Football League players who has yet had the opportunity to express himself at the highest level.

The Swans have also been linked with Chelsea’s Loic Remy this week, as Garry Monk is stepping up his interest in potential summer targets. Of course, Remy is the bigger name and many of the Swansea fans would prefer to see the Frenchman at the Liberty Stadium ahead of the Blackburn striker.

However, Rhodes is hungry and extremely eager to impress. He made the move up from League One to the Championship with ease, and he certainly deserves a chance to showcase his superb goalscoring ability in the Premier League.

What do you reckon?
